World-class music on the slopes of Volcan Baru
The Boquete Jazz & Blues Festival Foundation
The Boquete Jazz & Blues Festival Foundation is a charitable private not-for-profit foundation dedicated to support and enrich cultural life in Boquete and beyond. Run exclusively by unpaid volunteers, the main activities are the Boquete Jazz & Blues Festival, and the support and promotion of musical education in local schools.
The Boquete Jazz Festival began in 2007 under the direction of Panamanian citizen Antonio Singh. In 2011, following the initiative of the new director Hans-J. Lebuser, a German Expat, Blues shows were added to the lineup and the festival was renamed Boquete Jazz & Blues Festival. BJBF events since 2012 have featured top-class Blues acts, in addition to Latin Jazz bands from Central and South America and elsewhere. Organized and run by a large group of unpaid music loving volunteers these festivals are rated as the best music festivals ever held in the Chiriqui highlands and they attract visitors from all over Panama, Central and South America, the US, and Europe! From humble beginnings, and though still small in numbers, the Boquete Jazz and Blues Festival has become a well-known fixture on the calendar of musical events in Panama as well as with blues and jazz lovers all over the world.
The vision of the founders of the Boquete Jazz & Blues Festival Foundation and its present director John Wolff is to firmly place Boquete on the national and international map of Jazz and Blues events that are not to be missed. Our mission is to promote the musical arts and tourism in the Chiriqui highlands and beyond by attracting growing numbers of Panamanian and international music-aficionados to this beautiful area. Our dedication is to support musical education at schools in the Boquete area. To this end, 100% of the festival profits go to our Music for Schools program to purchase musical instruments and to improve musical education in local schools.
