This is HUGE step forward for the Biggest little Festival! The Panamanian National Institute of Culture (El Instituto Nacional de Cultura) INAC, has declared the Boquete Jazz and Blues Festival a "National Cultural Event" and the US embassy is sending The Deputy Chief of Mission, Kevin O’Reilly, to Boquete during the festival to express the Embassy’s support of the event.
This is really fantastic news! The importance of this development for the future of the festival cannot be estimated highly enough! It took 11 years of hard work to get there but now, with the support of Panamanian government agencies like the Tourism ministry and the National Cultural Institute as well as support from the US Embassy (with hopefully other embassies to follow) the tireless work of the organizers and hundreds of volunteers over the years is bearing lasting fruit. Jazz has already become well known in Panama with the prestigious Panama Jazz Festival in Panama City but now the Blues has also found a lasting home here! Thanks to everybody who contributed to this success, the volunteers, the sponsors, the organizers and the festival visitors, and special kudos to our present festival director John Wolff who finally achieved this most important breakthrough! Let the good times roll again!
The fantastic 2017 Boquete Jazz&Blues festival is only 4 weeks away…time to gear up and get ready! As usual, the festival will be kicked-off again with a BIG BANG, the one and only New Orleans style street parade in Panama…decorated vehicles, costumes, beads and all! In addition, the parade will feature a Panamanian folkloric roots&traditions group organized by the city of Boquete, with 16 traditional Pollera dancers, 3 "diablos sucios“ with their fantastic masks and costumes, live traditional music, members of the Boquete bomberos and a street band of the Nacional Police department of Chiriqui. A pre-party with face painting starts at 9am on Thursday, Feb. 9 at the BCP communal theater. Parade marching order will be set up in the BCP parking lot. The parade will leave the parking lot at 11am and will end at 12pm at the Boquete central park to join the BJBF free concerts with three great bands and a student workshop in the park from 12pm until 4pm. Everybody is invited to join the parade! Be there or be square! Get your costumes, beads and stuff ready and let the good times roll! Take a look at the festival website www.boquetejazzandbuesfestival.com to get an idea of the fun we had at previous parades! |
