After the festival was over and everybody had returned home we got the following letter from Dwayne Dopsie, bandleader of Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco hellraisers. Dwayne and his band were undoubtedly the biggest hit with the festival audience, and so this letter also goes out to all our festival visitors:
Panama - My new Love. A message from Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers to the People of Panama... From Dwayne Dopsie and The Zydeco Hellraisers. For a long time I heard good things and wanted to visit Panama. So when my agent told me we were going to perform at the Boquete Jazz and Blues Festival in Panama I said absolutely YES! And then to find out I'd be the first Zydeco band ever to perform there was the greatest bonus so I could show the Panamanian world my heritage - which is Zydeco mixed with the Blues. It makes such a unique sound that can't be duplicated when played right so I was excited to come. I admit my eyes were wowed at my first airplane view of the city only to get blown away by the beautiful people there and their beautiful spirit and to hear people loving the New Orleans music we live. You made me wanna play even more! The band gives John Wolff a special thanks for giving us this opportunity to be a part of this great festival. Thank you staff and all the volunteers. It was so great from the Garden Party in the rain to our performances at the festival and at the Rock. Seems like people couldn't get enough and I couldn't stop feeling it and playing it! It felt like I was home from the atmosphere to the smiles on everyone faces. You told me you loved it with your smiles and dancing. I would do it all over again but stay alot longer. Thank you for making us feel so good and for enjoying Zydeco the way we play it. We love you Panama !!!
